Australian WBR News Flash

World Bicycle Relief has arrived in Australia. Our office in Sydney is staffed by locals who are ready to change lives.

Thanks to the goodwill of you, our Aussie supporters, we’ve already raised nearly $40,000 to help provide Buffalo Bicycles to communities in developing countries. Watch this space in 2018; there are exciting times ahead!

Feel free to say g’day, and drop local Development Director Dagmar Geiger a line – dgeiger@worldbicyclerelief.org

Tour Down Under + World Bicycle Relief:

World Bicycle Relief Australia heads to South Australia in January during the Tour Down Under (TDU). Thanks to our friends at Bicycle Express in Adelaide, we’ll have one Buffalo Bicycle on display and plenty of time for conversation with Dagmar Geiger from WBRAU. A second Buffalo Bicycle will be with our friends from Zwift at one of their pop-up stations – and for every virtual kilometre cycled, one dollar will be donated by Zwift to World Bicycle Relief. If you’re in town for TDU, visit Bicycle Express at 124 Halifax Street, Adelaide 5000 and check out the Buffalo Bicycle!

 Meet the Ambassadors:

World Bicycle Relief Australia is thrilled to announce that we already have not one, but TWO fantastic ambassadors on board for 2018.

Walker Starr – A former professional cyclist, Sydney-based Walker has spent years dedicated to the sport, as well as fundraising for charities. We’re very happy to have him on board.

“Sport and cycling are areas that bring people together. To do anything well in life, you must have a higher purpose,” Walker says. “I see World Bicycle Relief as the perfect melding of my passion for cycling, the life-changing potential of a bicycle, and a way to build a dedicated community in Australia to support this great cause.”

Ben Gove – A NSW local, Ben is a keen Zwift cyclist and hosts his own regular fundraising rides for WBR (check out The Chop WBR, a virtual ride on Zwift). Ben is on the committee of the Central Coast Cycling Club, lists Ventoux in France as his favourite ride, and feels cycling is a metaphor for life: “Without sounding too philosophical, it has helped me through many a tough time and elevated me to a higher level in the good times.”

Ben was recently interviewed by Game On AUS about The Chop WBR – check out the podcast here.

Thank you, Walker and Ben – we’re excited to see you both in action in 2018.

WBR is very excited to have partnered with Champion System as our preferred clothing supplier:

“Once we heard that World Bicycle Relief has set up an Australian business, we were very keen to be involved and assist in getting the WBR message out in Australia. Having been involved in the cycling industry for 10 years, all of us at Champion System are aware of WBR and the innovative approach they have to enabling better access to education, health services and general daily activities via bicycles. We are truly honored to be involved.”

Chris Reynolds, MD., Champion System.
