CASE STUDY:
A Buddha’s Wife – the Eileen Kramer Dance Project

The Brief:

You can’t keep a good woman down – especially when she’s dancer, choreographer, costumer designer, and charity Ambassador, Eileen Kramer, celebrating her 103rd birthday with a public performance of A Buddha’s Wife at one of Sydney’s leading dance spaces. There was just one hurdle – Eileen and her supporters had to crowdfund $32,000 in just six weeks to cover staging costs – or the performance (choreographed by and starring Eileen) wouldn’t go ahead. Enter Blue Planet PR.

The Strategy:

Blue Planet PR had to get the word out about Eileen’s crowd funding site fast. BPPR quickly lined up high-profile publicity – a mix of metropolitan news, TV profile pieces, interviews and social media – to build buzz and curiosity about the irrepressible 103-year-old and her creative quest. On her actual 103rd birthday, Blue Planet PR also had Eileen attend a performance of Beautiful the Musical in Sydney, where the cast, crew and audience sang happy birthday, shared a birthday cake, and passed the collection bucket around to raise an additional $3000.

The Result:

Success – over $32,000 raised – and the show went ahead on schedule. Thanks to BPPR’s efforts, Eileen and her troupe of professional dancers caught the eye of Sydney’s dance-loving public, and were able to deliver three electric performances to a packed house every time.
